What kind of solar/electrical system do you need in your rig? We recommend a 3-part evaluation.

If you get stuck or have questions, our team is here to help! Email us a support@vanlifeoutfitters.com or call us at 754-444-8704 extension 2.

Step 1: Figure out your needs with a load calculation. We have a detailed blog post including sample load calculations you can use for this step. This exercise will really help you with the next two steps!

Step 2: Make a foundational decision on the type of system you'll be building. We've narrowed this down to three basic approaches/architectures - all of which use lithium-type batteries, and each one has a detailed blog post, free example wiring diagram, and, for the Victron-based systems, a discounted Victron Energy product bundle that you can configure to your specific needs. You'll save a bundle with our bundles! You can think of this as the primary components and the products in the bundle are specific to the architecture/system design you've chosen.

Step 3: Add on the "accessories" that you need for your particular system with our discounted accessories bundle that includes everything from shore power inlets to circuit protection and wiring. These are the products that will tie everything together into a fully functional power system but are not specific to a particular example wiring diagram/architecture.

Example: in this blog post, where we compare a "traditional" Victron-based system to an EcoFlow Power Kit, we have some video screen captures from our store product pages showing how we configured our internal BMS bundle and our accessory bundle to get a close comparison. These screen capture videos are helpful to see how versatile our bundles are and how you might configure them.

Victron Energy Bundle (External BMS Batteries)

$1,646.00

  • Savings start around $900 with two batteries. The more options you add, the bigger the savings! You can see the calculated discount/savings by scrolling down to the “options price” shown in red below the options.
  • This Victron Energy bundle comes with the core components that we recommend in our example power system using Victron’s Smart lithium batteries with an external BMS and is detailed in this example wiring diagram.
  • Includes all the main components you need that are specific to this system (scroll down toward the bottom of the page for a detailed list). We also have an accessory bundle for the more “universal” components used in a complete electrical system such as shore power components, fusing, wiring, load center, etc. For little things like lugs, heat shrink, wire management, etc. we have this list of recommendations.
  • World-class support. We’re here for you when installing, configuring and using your system!
  • Questions on how to configure the bundle? Feel free to contact us and we can walk you through the options!

Description

We highly recommend that you read through this post that details an example electrical system using these components to help you understand how the system works, how you would need to wire it up and configure everything and to help you make decisions on which of the options we offer in the bundle would be best for your power system.

Bundle Includes The Following with FREE Shipping!

  • A Victron MK3 to USB Interface that helps you to program/configure your MultiPlus inverter/charger (details on this process).
  • The Lynx Distributor(does the work of two bus bars and a whole bunch of fuses). You may want two of these: one for the batteries and another for the loads/chargers.
  • Cerbo GX monitoring and system control (see below)

Your Choice of MultiPlus Inverter/Charger

The original 12/2000/80, the newer 12/2000/80, the MultiPlus II 12/3000/120, or the dual phase/240 volt capable MultiPlus II 12/3000/120. Please feel free to contact us if you’re not sure which one to choose!

Your Choice of Victron Smart Lithium Batteries

Choose between one or more of either the 200 amp hour Smart batteries or the 330 amp hour Smart batteries. We don’t recommend mixing the two versions.

Your Choice of BMS/Battery Monitor

The batteries included in this bundle require an external BMS. You can choose between the following BMS options.

If you choose the VE.Bus BMS or the Smart BMSL CL 12/100 your bundle will come with the Victron SmartShunt for battery monitoring. If you choose the Lynx Smart BMS, a battery monitoring shunt is integrated into the BMS.

System Control & Monitoring with Victron’s Cerbo GX and the GX Touch  Screen

We offer two versions of the Cerbo GX in this bundle: the original Cerbo GX or a less-expensive Cerbo-S GX that does not have the analog temperature sensor inputs, the resistive tank monitoring inputs, and the BMS.Can port. This PDF datasheet compares the two shipping models. If you use a digital temp sensor like the Bluetooth Ruuvitags we sell or a digital tank monitoring solution like the SeeLevel system the removed ports on the Cerbo-S GX are not needed. The Cerbo GX offers sophisticated monitoring and control of the components of your electrical system – both locally in your van and, if you choose, “in the cloud” through their VRM portal online. The Cerbo GX pairs with a small, colorful touch screen (Touch 50 or Touch 70) to control the various displays. In addition to monitoring, you can control your MultiPlus inverter/charger from the touch display.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Orion DC-DC charger for charging from your alternator when driving
  • Your choice SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controllers. Need help knowing what size solar charge controller you need? Check out this awesome calculator.
  • One or more Victron Smart BatteryProtects. You’ll probably want two of these if you’re using the VE.Bus BMS and one of them with the Lynx Smart BMS.
  • A second Lynx Distributor or Lynx Power In.
