Vanlife Outfitters Isotemp Water Heater Installation Kit for Promaster, Sprinter & Transit Vans

We've taken the mystery and hassle out of installing an Isotemp water heater in your van! If you add on our optional installation kit, you'll get all the fittings, hose and hardware necessary to install the water heater in a typical installation. No need to order all these parts separately and hope that you have the right parts. The kit also comes with very detailed step-by-step guide on how to install the water heater and connect it to your van's coolant lines . The only additional thing you'll need to purchase yourself is the coolant specific to your vehicle to top up the system after you install the water heater. Note, our guide does NOT cover plumbing your water lines - only the installation of the water heater itself but we do provide some advice for hooking up your fresh/cold and hot water plumbing.

The installation kit was originally designed for a Ram Promaster, but we have since confirmed that this is also compatible on a Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit. Our installation guide shows photos of the kit being installed on a Ram Promaster, however the installation is virtually the same on both Sprinter and Promaster - the key difference in the procedure for Transit or Sprinter vans is the process of cutting into the van's coolant lines near the "heater core" and we try to update instruction guide often to show these differences. The components of the kit vary slightly depending on your van type.

We offer three versions of the kit. The "standard" kit with 50' of coolant hose will work for installations where the water heater is located on the driver side of the van. If you're locating your unit on the passenger side or high off the ground, consider getting the "long" or "extra long" versions of the kit which add some extra hose and related fittings. Full details of what is included in each version of the kit below.

Your Choice of Hose Clamps
You can choose between standard stainless steel hose clamps or Gates PowerGrip heat shrink hose clamps in your kit. We prefer the PowerGrip hose clamps but other installers prefer standard hose clamps. The PowerGrip hose clamps are a bit more expensive which is reflected in the cost of the kits that use that option. The PowerGrip clamps require a heat gun and a bit of a learning curve to install. The standard hose clamps only need basic tools and are easier to remove for any maintenance.

Standard Kit Includes:

  • 2x - brass 5/8″ barb to 1/2″ female NPT FNPT fittings
  • 2x - 1-1/4" x 3/4". PVC reducer bushings (these are used to protect the coolant hoses as they pass from below the van into the van and can accommodate flooring systems up to 1" in height)
  • 50 feet - Gates 28411 straight heater hose - 5/8"
  • 2x - brass barb reducing tees – 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 5/8″
  • 2x - brass barb 5/8" 90 degree elbows
  • 2x - 5/8″ brass barb ball valves
  • 16x - stainless steel hose clamps OR Gates 32925 PowerGrip heat shrink hose clamps (requires a heat gun to install)
  • 1x - Loctite 592 thread sealant (6 milliliters/.2 ounce)
  • 1x - Permatex high-temp red RTV silicone (3 ounces)
  • 20x - 7/8" stainless steel insulated hose clamps
  • 20x - 3/4" #8 stainless steel self-tapping screws
  • 1x - 6' length of foam pipe insulation
  • 10x - 11" stainless steel zip ties

Long Kit Adds:

  • Additional 10 feet of Gates 28411 straight heater hose – 5/8″
  • Additional 2x brass barb 5/8″ 90 degree elbows

I’m happy to give a shout out to VanLife Outfitters. These folks are an incredible example of how a company should conduct business. Although I’m building a truck camper, I have bought several things from VanLife outfitters and their customer service is bar none . I would never hesitate recommending VanLife outfitters to anyone whether they are building a van camper or boat. And I might add even a tiny home. Everyone that I’ve talked to have been nothing but incredible. In particular, Jason in technical support was an incredible blessing to me. I had a problem with the Aqua Hot Gen 1 heater I bought from them. It was not the heater fault, but something I did. Jason helped bird-dog the solution and together we got it fixed. He stuck with me, did research, and called me back several times to make sure that the problem was resolved. These people know the business, many have their on rigs, which gives them the best experience. Thanks you Vanlife Outfitters!!!!

My husband and I are doing our first vanbuild. As rookies, we have found Vanlife Outfitters to be a trusted resource for ease of product shopping and purchasing, video demonstrations, guidance and excellent customer service. They were particularly a great one-stop shop when building our electrical system.

I ordered most of the parts for my sprinter conversion from them. They have absolutely the best customer service. I had issues with my fridge installation duing the weekend and eamiled their customer service for help. Both times, they emailed me back with the instructions/help I need on Sunday. Thank you and this is absolutely my go to place.
